Sen. Daines: Not giving up on fighting for ranchers

Senator Steve Daines is not giving up in his fight for ranchers and is calling for the passage of a bill to help bring fairness to the cattle markets.

The Senate Ag Committee already passed the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act and Meat and Poultry Special Investigator Act, but there is no word yet on when the full Senate might take it up. Senator Daines says it is imperative the voices of the cattle industry and all of agriculture are heard.

“Our founding fathers feared urban population. That’s why in the United States Senate, there’s two senators from Montana and two senators from New York and California. In other words, it equalizes that, it gives really rural America a more powerful say in what’s going on in Washington and that’s by design. That’s not a bug, that’s a feature. Our founding fathers wanted to do that and that’s why it’s so important the voice of rural America is heard,” said Senator Daines.

While many cattle producers welcomed the legislation, several groups, including the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, oppose it. They say it duplicates the work of already-established investigative agencies.
