Sen. Grassley wants USDA, DOJ to appeal pork line speed ruling

Senator Chuck Grassley has made another plea for USDA and the Department of Justice to appeal a judge’s line speed ruling.

He says that without the appeal 2.5 percent of packing capacity will be gone in the next two weeks. This will back up hogs on farms, a third of which are raised in Iowa.

Grassley says that he is writing the Ag Department and getting his fellow Senators to sign on.

“We are getting bipartisan support, but I don’t have an answer beyond just sending the letter,” he states.

For now, it is a waiting game. USDA has said it will not appeal. Grassley hopes to convince the administration otherwise, by getting as many lawmakers as possible to sign the letter.
