Some grocery chains limiting ground beef and pork purchases

The slowdown at meat processing plants from the COVID-19 pandemic has led to panic-shopping at grocery stores. Some stores are now imposing limits on meat purchases to prevent over-purchasing.

Kroger said it is adding purchase limits on ground beef and fresh pork in some states.

Several top meat suppliers have announced temporary closures as they deal with outbreaks in their plants.

Production is down, but meat sales are up nearly 40% in recent weeks. It is important to not that grocers don’t expect meat shortages, but adjusting to the spike in demand has been difficult.
