Sounding the Alarm: possible collapse of the San Joaquin Valley’s ag workforce

California farm workers are sounding the alarm over the state’s groundwater law.

Some call it the collapse of the San Joaquin Valley’s ag workforce. More than a million acres could be taken out of production, putting tens of thousands of workers out of a job.

For years, farmers pumped groundwater without any limits, but now it is regulated by California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act. Advocates say that water should be regulated but no one planned for the farmworkers.
