3 million children will benefit from new USDA farm-to-school funding

The USDA has announced $10 million in funding for farm to school grants.

This money will go towards 123 projects across the nation. Also, for the first time, the Department is providing $60 million in noncompetitive grants to strengthen farm-to-school programs over the next four years. More than three million children at more than five thousand schools in 44 states will benefit from this funding.

Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, says, “When schools and local producers work together, children benefit from higher quality foods on their plates and program operators have stable sources for the products they need.”

He calls the move an investment in the next generation of agriculture.
