USDA has proposed a pilot program to bulk test milk for HPAI before cattle transport.
Starting in June, the program will allow farmers to test milk from bulk tanks rather than individual cows. They will require three consecutive weeks of negative tests to certify herds as HPAI-free with ongoing weekly tests to maintain this status.
Ag officials in six states told Reuters they were reviewing USDA’s proposal for the program, which has not been previously reported. USDA declined to comment.
