The White House weighs inflation vs. farmers in new biofuel mandates

“The Perfect Storm” - that is what the President of the Advanced Biofuels Association is calling the choice between inflation and farmers when it comes to biofuel mandates.

In the coming weeks, the White House will have to decide whether to lower blending mandates for ethanol and renewable diesel. On the consumer side, the move could theoretically cut food and fuel costs. But for producers, it would reduce the demand for corn, soybeans, and other staple crops, ultimately impacting their livelihoods.

One analyst believes President Biden’s decision could also shake up mid-term elections in November.
