The National Pork Producers Council says the transition to Prop-12 compliance is nearly complete.
President Scott Hays says U.S. pork producers are just about ready for Prop-12 to become a reality. Pork harvested prior to July 1st can still make its way to consumers, but now, that meat is frozen.
Hays tells Brownfield Ag News that is has been slow-moving to meet the start of the year deadline, and hog producers have had to make some tough decisions. He also warns that there might be some second thoughts for California voters with Prop-12 meat set to go up 27 percent in the state.
