Scientists at USDA and the University of Connecticut are one step closer to having a vaccine for African Swine Fever.
Two groups have developed vaccine candidates deemed promising, one of which is from Zoetis, a former subsidiary of Pfizer. Doctors working on the project say they are excited because other vaccines never materialized this fast. They say several tests have shown promising results when the vaccine was given to wild boars and domestic pigs.
Right now, the nearest documented cases of ASF to the U.S. are in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. No timetable was given for when the vaccine could be available to producers here in the U.S.
