LUBBOCK, Texas (RFD News) — USDA has updated several disaster assistance programs, making it easier for producers to qualify for aid and receive payments after weather-related losses. Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation Richard Fordyce says the changes are part of the implementation of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and are designed to provide more practical support when disasters strike.
The improvements include new payment options for the Livestock Indemnity Program, eligibility for certain unborn livestock losses, and the ability in some cases to use local market values instead of national prices when calculating assistance. The Livestock Forage Program also now triggers after four consecutive weeks of D2 drought, replacing a more complicated system.
Fordyce says the updates also improve several long-standing Farm Service Agency disaster programs covering floods, wildfires, extreme temperatures, and other qualifying events. He encourages producers to review the new provisions with their local FSA office.
The changes are intended to reduce confusion and help producers recover more quickly from natural disasters affecting crops, livestock, and farm infrastructure.
