According to the USDA, China continues to hold the top spot on the list. The Asian nation has been the world’s largest meat importer since 2019. The country imports 43 percent more than the world’s second-highest consumer of meat, Japan.

Most of China’s meat demand is for pork. Chinese pork imports have risen sharply in the last few years due to ongoing strain on its domestic supply due to the spread of African Swine Fever.

Japan is followed on the USDA’s list by Mexico and South Korea.
