White House is preparing for the first Hunger Conference since the Nixon era

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack discusses some of the expectations and potential discussions from the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.

USDA is preparing for the first Hunger Conference since the Nixon era. More than a dozen ag groups have requested a seat at the table, and Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack offered some of his expectations.

“This is gonna be a very robust effort, having looked at the proposed agenda, and the people that are participating in the agenda, I can tell ya it’s going to be a very busy day, a very packed day, a very long but substantive day. I think people are quite serious coming out of this conference with a roadmap that will indicate while we have done a lot of work, there is still work to be done,” said Vilsack.

He adds a strategic plan and additional recommendations will come out of the Conference, which is scheduled for September 28th. He calls hunger an issue more complex than people realize.
