Why you should expect another crop survey in the mail

USDA says some producers might get another acreage survey in the coming weeks.

This week’s report showed farmers boosted corn plantings by more than expected, but soybeans fell short of estimates. USDA says when it surveyed producers back in March, many indicated they had not been able to plant everything due to weather delays. 4 million acres of corn and 16 million acres of soybeans were not seeded.

“We’re going to go back and contact those producers around mid-July to find out what happened to those acres and see what the results yield there.”

USDA hopes to release those findings in a report in mid-August.
