The Bacon Buddies® Pig Show took center stage at the Iowa State Fair this week, showcasing the power of inclusivity, community, and the special bond between humans and animals.

Angel Wease, a young participant in the event, beamed with pride as she introduced her beloved pig.

“I’m showing a pig,” Wease declared. She brushed her pig’s coat with unwavering determination — every stroke was a testament to the care and dedication she pours into her four-legged companion. Angel’s story is part of something much bigger than herself.

“Bacon Buddies is the collaboration between Iowa Pork and the Special Olympics of Iowa,” Wease explained.

This incredible partnership opens doors for youth like Angel to participate in a unique experience: showing a pig at the iconic Iowa Sate Fair.

Angel chose the name for her pig, Maple, with care because its coat is the same shade of fiery red as hers. The event was more than just a show. It was a connection that went beyond words and allowed people and pigs alike to come together ad celebrate the beauty of diversity and the strength of community. And in the end, it felt good—really good.
