Blow to Biofuels: RFA is “mystified” by California’s aggressive ban on gas-powered cars

Biofuel groups say California’s plan to phase out gas-powered cars is a blow to the industry.

The state recently said it would ban the sale of internal combustion engines by 2035, and it comes at a time when E85 sales are growing in the state and retailers expand the number of pumps at their stations.

The Renewable Fuels Association says it is disappointed and “mystified” by the decision. It says the move will severely limit options and raise the cost of vehicle ownership in California while putting more strain on the already-overburdened electrical grid.
