Bureau of Land Management offers awards for those that can gather more than 82,000 wild horses and burros roaming the West

Right now, there are more than 82,000 wild horses and burros roaming the West. That is three times the amount the Bureau of Land Management can handle.

Over the next five years, the Bureau is giving $20 million to contractors to humanely treat the animals with fertility-control vaccines.

They say it is a top priority to protect public lands and all the species that depend on it, especially as the effects of climate change grow.
