Diggin’ In: Highlights from the 86th Georgia Farm Bureau Convention 2023

The Georgia Farm Monitor gives us a glimpse into the 86th Georgia Farm Bureau Convention where they are cultivating traditions and celebrating achievements!

The 86th Georgia Farm Bureau Convention took center stage at the Jekyll Island Convention Center, marking 86 years of tradition and camaraderie among its members. The convention, held on Jekyll Island for the 59th year, provided a platform for the next generation of agricultural leaders to share their appreciation for farming and hard work. The Georgia Farm Monitor takes us there.

Amid the festivities, one timeless tradition stood out — the beloved hot-grilled PB&J sandwiches generously distributed by the Georgia Peanut Commission.

The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture’s inaugural “Christmas on the Farm” bingo game also stole the spotlight, drawing over 150 guests for 10 rounds of bingo, door prizes, live music, and festive cheer. Georgia Foundation for Agriculture Executive Director Lily Baucom highlighted the event’s dual purpose — creating a fun holiday celebration while raising funds to support essential programs.

Georgia Farm Bureau President Tom McCall delivered a powerful address, likening the organization to an “elephant in the room,” explaining how it is impossible to ignore and its presence has an impact. He also emphasized the vital role of local leaders and the lobbying team in advocating for the needs of farmers at the state level. President McCall concluded his speech with an emotional announcement: his intention to run for re-election as the President of Georgia Farm Bureau, which garnered enthusiastic applause.

The event was not just a successful convention but also a significant milestone for the dedicated members of the organization.
