After months of no reports, APHIS is showing new outbreaks of High Pathogenic Avian Flu (HPAI).
In one week, nearly 200,000 birds were affected by the virus. More than 141,000 birds died at a commercial turkey facility in central Utah. In South Dakota, 47,000 birds were also culled at a turkey operation.
South Dakota State Veterinarian Beth Thompson joined us for an update on bio-security measures to keep in mind amid migration season. In a conversation with RFD-TV news, she discussed her state’s losses since the virus spread last year, what protocols producers need to keep in mind, and the best first steps to take if someone expects to have potential exposure among their flock.
