Farmers Fire Back: Ag leaders voice opposition over Biden Administration’s proposed ban on menthol cigarettes

Farm groups and lawmakers are calling on the Biden Administration to drop this proposed ban on menthol cigarettes, calling it a ‘misguided federal policy’ that would devastate both black farmers and rural communities.

Farmers across Rural America are fighting back against the Biden Administration’s proposed ban on menthol cigarettes.

The ban would criminalize the sale, distribution, and possession of menthol cigarettes under federal, state, and local laws. Violations could result in mandatory sentences, revocation of parole, fines, losing the right to vote, or even deportation.

The National Black Farmers Association is calling on the administration to end this proposed ban, calling it a ‘misguided federal policy’ that would devastate both black farmers and rural communities.

The House Small Business Committee Chairman, Roger Williams, is also expressing concern, saying the regulation would have significant economic impacts on small entities and fuel illicit markets.

The Food and Drug Administration is set to process a final rule in the coming weeks, which would create the largest prohibition of a legal adult product in modern history.
