WASHINGTON, D.C. (RFD News) — House Agriculture Committee Chairman G.T. Thompson says the Farm Bill is in good hands as the Senate continues work on the legislation.
Thompson recently joined RFD News and said he remains confident in Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman as the Senate works to advance the bill.
“We sent a very strong bipartisan bill to the senate. I am very confident in the future of it because it’s in a very capable hands of a good friend of mine, senator John Boozman. He was a mentor of mine when I first came into the house. As I think I’ve shared with you in the past, we were Bible study buddies. It’s in very capable hands. He already released his draft. I thought it was hard to get legislation through the house. He has to get 60 votes in the U.S. Senate. He’s going to do what he needs to do to get those 60 votes.”
Thompson says if Congress does not pass a farm bill before early January, lawmakers will have to start the process over.
The Senate is currently on recess through the Fourth of July holiday.
