WASHINGTON, D.C. (RFD NEWS) — As harvest season approaches for farmers across the country, the National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) is reminding agricultural workers to make safety a priority.
The organization is hosting its sixth annual Harvest Safety Week August 18-22, providing resources focused on some of the biggest safety challenges facing workers in agriculture.
Jess McCluer, senior vice president of Safety and Regulatory for the National Grain and Feed Association, said safety is one of the organization’s primary areas of focus.
The theme for this year’s Harvest Safety Week is “Safety First. Harvest Ready.” Throughout the week, NGFA will share new safety videos and prerecorded presentations covering topics including:
- Grain storage piles
- Moving vehicles
- Extreme weather, including heat and cold
- Worker fatigue
The resources are designed to be easily accessible and build on safety information available through the NGFA.
Practicing Farm Safety All Year
McCluer emphasized that while Harvest Safety Week takes place annually, the resources are available year-round.
NGFA encourages members to share the videos, presentations, emails and other safety materials with customers, suppliers and agricultural networks.
The organization also encourages people to participate through social media using #HSW25 and tagging NGFA.
McCluer said the ultimate goal is to make agriculture a safer industry and help ensure workers return home safely at the end of each day.
Harvest Safety Week runs August 18-22, with safety resources available through the National Grain and Feed Association year-round.
