AMARILLO, Texas (RFD News) — Tyson Foods is restructuring operations at several beef facilities, with one already closed and another expected to close in October.
Brady Miller with the Texas Cattle Feeders Association joined us on Monday’s Market Day Report to discuss what the changes could mean for cattle producers.
In his conversation with RFD News, Miller said the closures did not come as a surprise as cattle supplies remain tight. With fewer Mexican cattle entering the U.S., he said the industry knew excess processing capacity could eventually lead to closures.
Despite the changes, Miller said he believes the cattle industry remains in a good position because consumers continue to buy U.S. beef.
He said producers with high-quality cattle will still have opportunities, even as some are forced to look farther from home to market their livestock.
