STANTON, Neb. (RFD News) — Day one of the annual Pro Farmer Crop Tour is underway as more than 100 scouts travel across the Corn Belt measuring this year’s yield potential.
Ted Seifried with Zaner Ag Hedge joined us from the western leg of the tour on Monday’s Market Day Report to discuss what scouts are seeing in South Dakota and Nebraska.
In his conversation with RFD News, Seifried said corn yield and soybean pod counts along his South Dakota route were both down 11% from the same route last year. He said conditions there were generally close to expectations.
In Nebraska, the first two stops in Cedar County came in above 200 bushels per acre. As scouts moved farther south, Seifried said they began seeing more pollination issues and hail damage.
Much of his route Monday was non-irrigated. Seifried said conditions could improve as the tour continues south into areas that have seen less drought.
