How much of a toll has HPAI taken globally?

High Pathogenic Avian Flu is wreaking havoc on the U.S. flock and its producers over the last year, and a new study shows it has been one of the worst outbreaks ever recorded.

The impact of the virus, which has decimated birds across the country, has also been found across the globe. Research done by Vox shows it has spread across five continents and hit hundreds of species.

HPAI-endangered birds like the California condor, leaving it to be classified as a panzootic, or an animal pandemic. Fortunately, APHIS has not reported a case of the disease in the U.S. in nearly two months.
