Even though conditions are improving in other areas around the country, the wheat crop in Kansas is still in extreme drought.
The USDA reports that almost 70 percent of topsoil and more than 80 percent of subsoil are short to very short of moisture, impacting the now dormant winter wheat crop. 49 percent of the crop is in the worst-rated condition and that is up 7 percent from November. 19 percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.
