BATON ROUGE, La. (TWILA) — Rice farmers across the Southeast will have two new varieties to choose from next planting season after years of development at the LSU AgCenter.
Researchers say the new varieties offer improved disease resistance, higher yields and better grain quality.
As harvest begins, the LSU AgCenter expects Louisiana rice acreage to decline this year as low commodity prices and high input costs continue to pressure producers.
The AgCenter is also monitoring for the invasive rice delphacid, which has been reported in Texas but has not yet been detected in Louisiana.
