Midland County Junior Livestock Show: Swine Showcase

Midland County Junior Livestock Show in West Texas features swine competition with top exhibitors, including Grand Champion Brinley Wilson, ahead of Saturday’s premium sale.

MIDLAND, Texas (RFD NEWS) — The Midland County Junior Livestock Show is underway in West Texas, with the swine show drawing top young exhibitors ahead of Saturday’s premium sale.

Around 170 pigs were shown, and many are expected to compete at the state and national level, according to swine judge and hog producer Brock Herrin from Minko, Oklahoma.

“Several will be competitive on the state and national level,” said Herrin, who also raises pigs for show, mostly crossbreds, Durocs, and Furchesters. Regarding his own pigs, he said, “We try to focus on winners.”

Swine Grand Champion Brinley Wilson is preparing for a busy season, including major competitions like the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, coming up next month.

The Midland County Junior Livestock Show continues through Saturday, with a culinary arts competition to follow on Sunday. This smaller local event gives young producers an opportunity to gain experience showing livestock before competing in larger Texas stock shows.
