Researchers at Iowa State University have identified a new strain of PED Virus (PEDV). Four of the five cases identified with the unique strain were from Illinois, while the fifth came from Missouri.
The Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Lab has detected five virus strains that did not match previously sequenced cases.
Scientists say it’s unlikely the strain mutated from the identified initially U.S. sequence.
The lab is still working to learn more about the new strain’s origins.
