Rural Health Matters: Blood Shortage Puts Donors in High Demand

Dr. Jeffrey Gold is urging new and returning donors to give as blood supplies remain critically low.

OMAHA, Neb. (RFD-TV) — A critical blood shortage is putting pressure on hospitals across the country as the holiday season approaches.

University of Nebraska President Dr. Jeffrey Gold joined us on Friday’s Rural Health Matters to discuss the importance of blood donation.

In his conversation with RFD-TV, Dr. Gold said shortages can force hospitals to delay or cancel elective procedures and is encouraging both new and returning donors to give blood.

Gold also highlighted a Big Ten competition encouraging blood donations, with donors able to credit their donation to their favorite conference school.
