From cheese to cattle, Hildebrandt Family Farms has its hands in multiple markets. The family-oriented dairy operation strives for growth and found a new market for milk through Prairie Pure Cheese as well as the Holstein steers they sell through a local meat market.
“Starting the day at sunrise and going until sunset—when you get to end the day like this and look out and see all the cows out grazing and enjoying themselves—I just can’t go wrong, and it’s something I enjoy and take pride in doing every day,” said Ty Hildebrandt, who farms with his father, Roger; his brother, Brett; as well as his uncle and cousins.
Today, the Hildebrandt Family milks more than 90 cows and farms 1,400 acres, steering the same operation started back in 1960 by Ty’s grandparents, Gene and Millie Hildebrandt.
The family is looking forward to growing cheese sales in the future.
“Experiencing our cheese is something I never would have thought would have been possible for us,” Hildebrandt said. “It’s a great feeling knowing— [on] one [hand], that we produce it, but two, also knowing how much we love it. It’s not something that we’re just making just to sell it. It’s something that we believe in. [It’s] what we eat every day.”
No matter what the future holds at Hildebrandt Family Farms, Ty emphasized the importance of family running the show now and for years to come.
