MACON, Ga. (RFD News) — Greenhouse growing is expanding across North America as automation makes it easier to produce more crops closer to consumers.
Cox Farms said new technology is making crops like lettuce and strawberries more practical to grow in controlled environments. The company now operates more than 700 acres of greenhouses across the U.S. and Canada, producing tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce and strawberries.
Automated systems handle much of the planting and harvesting, while growing in urban areas reduces shipping time and improves freshness.
