FFA Today: Kansas FFA President Lillian Hulse Talks State Convention

Hulse discusses leadership, college life and what members can expect at this year’s convention.

CULVERS, Kan. (RFD News)The Kansas FFA State Convention is just weeks away, bringing thousands of members to Manhattan, Kansas, to celebrate leadership, agriculture, and the future of the industry.

Kansas State FFA President Lillian Hulse joined us on Monday’s FFA Today to talk about her time in the organization and what members can expect from this year’s convention.

In her conversation with RFD News, Hulse reflected on some of the experiences she’s had while traveling the state as a Kansas FFA officer.

“One of the best parts is seeing members from across the state. I’m kind of ashamed to say that I’ve never been to Southeast Kansas until I was a state officer, but it’s just a great experience to meet members and learn so many things about Kansas.”

Hulse says serving as state president while attending college has been a learning experience.

“It taught me this year in college that leadership isn’t just about leading others. It’s also about leading yourself because you have to be accountable. There’s no one telling you to study for your exams, finish your classes, because it’s really all on you.”

She added that members will expand on last year’s service project, with around 300 students expected to assemble 700 hygiene kits for distribution across the state.

Hulse says this year’s convention will also have more space available as Kansas FFA membership continues to grow, now reaching roughly 14,300 members statewide.
