Fourth-Generation Louisiana FarmHER Builds on Family Legacy

The Louisiana producer hopes to one day pass the farm on to her newborn son.

VERMILION PARISH, La. (TWILA) — Farmers across the country are facing their share of challenges, but for many, walking away is not an option.

Laura Hebert has spent the past several years navigating tough markets, drought, and the loss of farmland while working to keep her family’s farm moving forward.

Hebert is a fourth-generation farmer who stepped into a leadership role on her family’s operation. She later introduced sugarcane to help diversify the farm and secure its future.

Now a finalist for the 2026 Louisiana Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Achievement Award, Hebert is building a legacy she hopes to one day pass on to her newborn son.

The winner will advance to represent Louisiana at the national competition next year.
