LSU Expands Beef Program to Help Producers Manage Herds

The expansion comes as Washington confirms bird flu in dairy cattle for the first time.

BATON ROUGE, La. (TWILA) — The LSU AgCenter is expanding its beef program to help Louisiana producers make informed decisions about their herds.

Josh Meeks reports on how the program is helping ranchers prepare for the future as herd growth remains a focus.

Meanwhile, bird flu has been detected in a Washington state dairy herd for the first time. State agriculture officials say the virus was detected at two dairy farms in the same county following more than 7,000 surveillance tests over the past two years.

Both farms are under quarantine, with veterinarians treating sick cattle. Officials are urging producers to watch for drops in milk production, fever and loss of appetite.

Officials stress that pasteurized milk remains safe and no milk supply shortages are expected.
