Meet Cattle Producer Scott Porter — Kentucky Farm Bureau’s Farmer of the Year!

Cattle farmer Scott Porter, Kentucky Farm Bureau’s 2025 Farmer of the Year, discusses his commitment to mentorship and the importance of strengthening the future of agriculture.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (RFD NEWS) — Supporting local communities remains a priority for many in agriculture, and one Kentucky producer is being recognized for his efforts both on and off the farm.

Scott Porter of Mason County has been named the Kentucky Farm Bureau’s 2025 Farmer of the Year, honoring his work in cattle production, land stewardship, and mentorship.

In his conversation with RFD NEWS, Porter discussed what the recognition means to him and shared details about his operation and background in agriculture. He also spoke about the importance of helping those outside of agriculture better understand farming and the role producers play.

Porter highlighted his efforts in mentoring young cattle producers and emphasized the value of supporting the next generation and local communities. He also shared that his son has recently joined the farm full-time.

Finally, Porter discussed what farmers need most right now to remain resilient and offered a snapshot of current conditions on his operation.
