Turkey producers are fighting back against purchaser class certification.
The top turkey producers in the nation are asking a federal judge in Illinois to reject the motion for class certification by direct purchasers of turkey products. The producers filed the motion in response to an anti-trust litigation filed by the purchasers in 2019 over price collusion.
The direct purchasers want class status for whole birds, turkey breast, and ground turkey purchasers, but producers say the complexity within the industry makes class treatment inappropriate.
