LUBBOCK, TEXAS (RFD NEWS) — Vietnam’s expanding economy and food sector are creating new opportunities for U.S. farmers, livestock producers, and agricultural exporters.
USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service says U.S. agricultural exports to Vietnam reached $4.7 billion in 2025, making the United States the country’s second-largest agricultural supplier. Vietnam’s population topped 101 million, while economic growth and rising incomes increased demand for imported food, feed, fiber, and fuel.
Cotton remains a major opportunity. U.S. cotton exports to Vietnam reached $1.3 billion in 2025, up 122 percent, making Vietnam the top U.S. cotton market. Soybean exports rose 20 percent to $581 million, while corn exports increased sharply to $394 million.
Demand is also growing for dairy, poultry, ethanol, fresh fruit, and dried distillers grains. Vietnam’s larger food-processing sector and expanding livestock industry are increasing the need for imported ingredients and feed.
Trade barriers remain a concern because the United States lacks a free trade agreement with Vietnam. Ongoing negotiations could improve market access and reduce tariff disadvantages.
