NASHVILLE, Tenn. (RFD News) — Artificial intelligence has found a home on many farms, but Tom Cole with Till Insurance says the technology will not replace crop insurance agents.
“In terms of the relationship with your agent, we don’t view that going anywhere,” Cole said. “We think a grower needs to spend most of their time thinking about their operation, and there should be an advisor in the picture who is studying that full time and giving the best possible advice.”
However, beyond the grower-agent relationship, Cole believes AI will improve other parts of the insurance agency and strengthen those business relationships.
“I think what we’ll see in crop insurance is a reversion to simpler products coming out of the RMA right now. It’s a very complicated program,” he explained. “The program will be simplified over the next five to 10 years, but the actual relationship that a grower has with their crop insurance agent, that won’t change.”
Cole told AgInfo.net it will be important for agents to stay up to speed as the ag tech sector continues to evolve.
