NEWTON, N.C. (RFD News) — The North Carolina Farm Bureau is helping producers reduce heat and sun exposure through its Tractor Canopy Cost-Share Program.
Jan Glenn, who operates Reverie Rescue & Retirement, said she spends long hours mowing her 17-acre horse farm. After battling skin cancer, she said the canopy has made working in the summer heat safer and more comfortable.
Farmer David Carpenter with Broken Circle Farm also took advantage of the program, saying the cost-share helped make the purchase affordable and that the canopy has made a noticeable difference while working in the field.
The North Carolina Farm Bureau said the Tractor Canopy Cost-Share Program reimburses members up to $250 toward the purchase of a canopy and is part of a broader effort to improve farm safety and reduce the health risks that come with long hours in the sun.
