Fields of Legacy: Third-gen Oklahoma farm family honored for dedication to the land & ability to adapt

In the heart of southern Oklahoma, the Eddings family cultivates a saga of resilience and love, nurturing their farm through changing seasons and passing generations.

Steve and Karen Eddings are nurturing a heritage deeply rooted in the love for the land. Steve’s earliest memories involve the hum of an old 4020 tractor, a precursor to a life dedicated to the cycles of nature and the family farm.

The Eddings family’s operation has adapted with time, especially during a pivotal chapter in the mid-1990s when they transitioned from peanut farming to a more diversified approach — steering their farm towards raising cattle and growing pecans and wheat. This transformation mirrored their commitment to preserving tradition while evolving with the times.

Recently honored as the Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s 2023 District 4 Farm and Ranch Family of the Year, the Eddings family stands as a beacon of resilience and dedication. Steve’s eyes light up as he speaks of watching his children and grandchildren breathe life into the farm, illustrating a legacy that extends beyond the crops and livestock.

For the Eddings family, agriculture is not just a livelihood but a source of joy, freedom, and a profound connection to the ever-changing seasons. The rhythm of life on the farm brings a fulfillment that transcends the challenges, a sentiment echoed in the birth of newborn calves and the simplicity of daily farm tasks.
