The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) is still keeping a close eye on High-Path Avian Flu (HPAI) after it was detected in dairy herds across Texas, Kansas, and Michigan, as well as the recent human case in Texas.
So far, the dairy cattle’s symptoms are inflamed eyes. We asked USDA why cattle are not being culled the same way as poultry.
In response, a USDA spokesperson told RFD-TV: “Unlike HPAI in birds, which is typically fatal, little to no mortality has been reported and the animals are reportedly recovering. The affected cows on the dairy farms are currently being isolated from other animals.”
