4-H Chefs Compete in Great American Seafood Cook-Off

Teams from five states brought local ingredients to New Orleans for the culinary competition.

NEW ORLEANS, La. (RFD News) — Aspiring 4-H chefs sharpened their culinary and competition skills during the Great American Seafood Cook-off in New Orleans.

Competitors from Louisiana, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas prepared fresh Gulf seafood while incorporating local ingredients from their home states into their signature dishes.

“It’s just a really neat mixture to see what kids make and create utilizing those commodities that come from their certain counties and states,” 4-H Regional Director Ashley Powell said.

The competitors practiced their dishes leading up to the cook-off before preparing them in front of a crowd and presenting them to professional chefs for judging.

The team from Madison County, Tennessee, took home the top prize, with Louisiana’s Winn Parish team placing second.
