Dairy groups seek participation in FDA comment period for renaming non-dairy alternative products

To be called “dairy,” or not to be...you be the judge!

Dairy groups are asking farmers and consumers to send in comments on the Food and Drug Administration’s proposed guidelines for plant-based milk alternative labels and nutrient statements.

As it stands, the proposal calls for voluntary nutrition information on non-dairy packages. Brody Stapel with Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative told Brownfield Ag News he does not expect manufacturers to voluntarily do that.

The FDA comment period was extended until August 31, click here for more information.
