‘Product of USA’ Label Gains Meat Industry Support

Ten more meat and poultry companies have adopted USDA’s voluntary label for products sourced entirely in the United States.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (RFD News) — More meat companies are adopting USDA’s voluntary Product of USA label as interest grows in verifying the origin of livestock products.

USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins says 10 additional meat and poultry companies have joined the initiative. The label allows qualifying products to show they came from animals born, raised, harvested, and processed in the United States.

The program is designed to give consumers clearer information while creating marketing opportunities for American ranchers, farmers, and processors. It follows years of debate over how meat origin claims should be used and verified.

The label remains voluntary, meaning companies choose whether to participate. Supporters say stronger origin claims could help differentiate U.S. products, while the long-term question is whether consumers create enough demand to support premiums.

USDA is also pairing the effort with the Strengthening Processing for U.S. Ranchers program, which provides support for small and mid-sized beef processors.
