CattleCon Panel Highlights Importance of Ranch Succession Planning

NCBA and the Noble Research Institute say preparing the next generation begins well before ownership changes hands.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (RFD News) — The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) says preparing the next generation of the ranch starts long before ownership changes hands.

During a sustainability forum sponsored by the Noble Research Institute at CattleCon 2026, producers and industry leaders discussed the importance of succession planning and long-term stewardship.

Experts said succession planning is becoming increasingly important as more farmers and ranchers near retirement, noting that planning ahead can help keep working lands in agriculture for generations to come.
