Minnesota Researchers Target Soybean Cyst Nematode Resistance

Molecular markers are helping speed up breeding for more effective pest resistance.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (RFD News) — Minnesota researchers are looking for new ways to protect soybeans from soybean cyst nematode (SCN), as some populations can overcome current types of resistance.

Researcher Aaron Lorenz says work supported by the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council is using molecular markers to make breeding for SCN resistance faster and more efficient.

The research is also focused on identifying new sources of resistance, giving farmers more options to sustainably produce soybeans in the years ahead.
