BROOKINGS, S.D. (RFD-TV) — Researchers at South Dakota State University are working to improve vaccines against a poultry disease causing major losses for producers.
The university is spending $250,000 to study vaccines for avian metapneumovirus, which impacts chickens and turkeys and has spread across poultry-producing states since late 2023.
Researchers will test existing vaccines against American strains of the virus to determine their safety, effectiveness and how long protection lasts.
